The Unofficial Stanford Playbook: How to Get In, Make It Count and Put It to Work is a candid panel conversation with three Stanford alumni from Mexico and Latin America: Alan Kalach, Claudio Guardado, and Tomas Cortes. They followed different academic paths, including an MBA, an engineering master’s program, and undergraduate studies in computer science. They will share what helped them get into Stanford, what they wish they had known before applying, and what the experience is really like for students from Mexico and Latin America. The conversation will cover the opportunities, cultural challenges, pressure, relationships, and lessons that shaped their time at Stanford, including what the university does exceptionally well and what may be overhyped. The session will then explore how they met, decided to build a company together, identified a problem worth solving, and transformed their experience and networks into Baltra AI. They will share practical lessons about finding co-founders, validating an idea, launching a startup, and adapting Silicon Valley principles to the realities of building for the Mexican market. The event will conclude with a casual Q&A over wine & cheese - about Stanford, entrepreneurship, and building between Mexico and the United States.
